What Is a Community of Practice?
A Community of Practice is a group of people who share a common interest or skill and come together to learn from each other and improve what they do. Imagine a club where everyone loves the same thing, like cars or making music, and they meet regularly to share tips, solve problems together, and get better at their craft. It's all about working together, helping each other, and growing as a group.

Frequently Asked questions
What exactly is the B&B CoP, and how does it work?
B&B CoP aims to train barber and beauty shops to provide peer support services while facilitating transformative engagement processes with the customers they serve.
Participants will go through accelerated training in order to learn to provide behavioral health support services. After completion of the targeted trainings, barbers and beauticians will be eligible for funding opportunities through this CRP.
Are there any costs associated with the training or joining the program?
Not only is the program free, but you will be compensated 2,000 dollars after completion of each training, (Up to $4,000)with an aim to produce a sustainable funding stream to support program delivery.
- Are you over 18 and identify as Black, Latine, urban Indian, and/or a member of a tribal community? If so, you qualify.
- Do you identify as an individual welll grounded in their healing/recovery process in your metnal health or substance use disorder for a year? If so, you qualify.
Do I qualify?
- There is a fee associated with the Healing Centered Engagement Certification. This fee will be paid through funds attached to this project. You are not expected to pay that fee for that certification and will not be reimbursed for doing so. This will take place AFTER the successful application and enrollment of your team into the project.
I see a fee for the HCE training.
You will be trained and capable of providing:
- Peer support
- Violence prevention
- Community Connections
- Basic and informed behavioral health support to reduce stigma of mental health challenges and services
- Mentorship
- Barrier Navigation

What kind of behavioral health services will I be able to provide after the training?
How long will the training take, and what does it involve?
The program offers two trainings. Healing Centered Engagement training is a self paced, remote class (approx. 16 hours). Certified Peer Counseling training is 36 hours of in person training.
To qualify for further funding, you must take both.
Will I receive any certifications or official recognition after completing the training?
Upon completion, you will receive a-
- Washington State Certified Peer Counselors Certificate, and become a-
- Certified Healing Centered Engagement practitioner.
Upon completion, you will:
- Expand your beacon of hope and community impact
- Be connected to knowledgeable service HUBs for support and to increase impact.
- Become eligible to bill for your additional services through state and federal funding.
What are the benefits for my barbershop if I join the B&B Co-Op?
How will participating in this program impact my daily work routine?
There is a 36 hour CPC Training, and a 20 hour Healing Centered Engagement training. After those initial trainings, your daily routine will be completely under your control.
